Top players from around the world are heading over to Scotland for the 147th edition of the Open with the tournament set to take place at the notoriously difficult Carnoustie golf links. The course is renowned as being the most challenging Open venue for players and also one of the most difficult in the world. The course has a rich history having been established back in 1842 in which they first held the Open back in 1931 with 2010 the time the first senior open took place.
The current Betfair open odds 2018 make the American world number 1 Dustin Johnson the outright 10/1 favourite. Johnson has continued his impressive form throughout the year that included a top 10 finish in both of the majors this season. Firstly it was a tie for 10th in the Masters followed by a 3rd place finish in the U.S. Open. He was also a winner of the Sentry tournament of champions earlier this season so is a key contender for the title.
Jordan Spieth enters the tournament as the defending champion and will be looking to return to form following failing to make the cut at the recent U.S. Open. He was dominant last year in which he shot a 12 under par resulting in victory ahead of Matt Kuchar by 3 shots. If he puts in a similar performance then it sets up for a fascinating tournament.
