Manchester United vs Manchester City – a crucial Manchester derby at Old Trafford

This weekend sees one of the most important and highly anticipated Manchester derbies in years. It may still be relatively early in the season, but the result will have a big impact on the Premier League title race and, if Manchester City win, they could have an unassailable lead heading into the new year.

City already have an eight-point advantage after winning 14 of their 15 matches – the best start to a campaign ever – and are unbeaten. Given their dominance, Pep Guardiola will be confident of extending that run, even though they suffered their first defeat of the campaign in midweek to Shakhtar Donetsk in their final Champions League group match – City had already booked their place in the last-16 and Guardiola made a number of changes.

The Spaniard has such a deep squad to call upon that a number of his stars, such as Kevin De Bruyne, should be fresh for Sunday’s clash at Old Trafford, though David Silva is reportedly a doubt for the game after picking up an injury last week.

One player that will definitely miss out is Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, after the Frenchman was sent off in last Saturday’s 3-1 win over Arsenal following a challenge on Hector Bellerin. The 24-year-old central midfielder is arguably his side’s most important outfield player, and will be a big miss.

Jose Mourinho does, however, have an outstanding home record, and the Reds have not been beaten at Old Trafford since September 2016, against City. Indeed, United have won 14 times in succession and avoiding defeat at the weekend would see a new club record of 41 games without defeat.

The derby will also see the league’s two best attacking and defensive records in action, in what should be a fascinating match-up. For a great range of statistics and odds for the fixture, look no further than sports betting site Tipbet.

They are providing a big range of betting markets for the 17:30 (CET) kick-off. They have City as 2.15 favourites, with the hosts offered at 3.40, and a draw 3.55.
